Freckles

Freckles appear early in life. The freckles increase in number during summer months while they fade in winter season. It has been observed that the freckles disappears after the age of 40-45 years.

Normally, the age spots are similar to freckles but they appear later in life and can occur in any skin type. If the person knows the cause of freckles, then by taking proper care, one can prevent and treat the freckles, due to which he/she can have better skin tone at any age.

Hence, in order to prevent skin discolouration in case of Freckles, the first and the most important thing is to avoid sun exposure and there should be routine wear of sun screen. In this way, the body will not need to produce more melanin as the melanin is produced by the body in response to sun exposure.

Normally, the melonin is accumulated in upper layer of the skin, hence skin lightening and peeling is necessary. Hydroquinone has been a very popular treatment, however it can irritate the skin.

Kojic acid, discovered in Japan in 1989, is a natural product derived from fungi. It is gentle on the skin and very effective in treating skin discolouration. Penetrating upper skin layers, it inhibits the formation of the pigment.

Alpha hydroxy acids helps to shed the old cells faster, therefore, they will be helpful as well. By removing the outer skin cells, which are usually darker, will make the freckles lighter and less visible.

Extra sun protection is very necessary in all the cases. Sunscreen cream should be applied several times a day. By using skin lighteners and peels, it affects the upper darker layer

Lower layers are lighter, with less melanin present. If a person don’t protect the skin, then it will produce its own defence mechanism, hence producing more melanin. This all, will producer darker and much more discolouration which will be very difficult to get eliminated. Hence, we can say that the Freckles require treatment continuously. If once stopped, then it can lead to their recurrence. Normally, lighteners and moisturizers will protect the skin from ultraviolet light.
