Foundation for your face shape and color

1. The ideal face is oval. If the shape of your face is not oval and not to your liking, it is good to use two shades of foundation in order to create the illusion you desire. But perfect blending of the two shades is very important to avoid a patchy look.

2. Choose a shade which matches your skin color and another which is just a shade darker than this one. Keep in mind that dark colored foundation recedes and light colored foundation projects.

3. To the part of your face which you want to make less prominent, apply the darker shade there. Hence a darker foundation applied on the sides along the templates and jaw line, makes a round or a broad face look slimmer

Foundation for a broad face

Put a patchy shade of foundation all over the face. A darker shade is applied on the broad jaw line and templates on a square face. Blend the edges of dark foundation with the fingers so that no patches, streaks or lines of demarcation show.

Foundation for mature skin

On a mature skin, do not put foundation on the fine line around the eyes. It makes the lines more prominent by accumulating there. So avoid the under eye areas in mature skins. For an evening makeup, you can mix some astringent or water in a little foundation to dilute it and then use it on these areas.

Tip

The older you get, the less make up you should wear.....it emphasizes lines on your face, alas!

What shades of foundation

1. A wrong choice of shade and incorrect application of foundation gives that unnatural or caked on look.

2. Select a shade matching your skin color by applying a little on the jaw line (the side of your face).

3. Never test on your wrist. The wrist is never the same color tone as your face.

4. A light shade of foundation will give a chalky look; where as a dark shade will make your skin look darker. Choose a shade which blends well with your skin.

5. Put a small dot on the jaw line and rub lightly to blend. A patch should not appear. This is the right shade for you.
