Face Lifting and Peeling

Generally, as the person’s age increases, their skin begins to lose elasticity and may begin to sag and droop. But if this condition affects the face, then the person may appear older than his/her natural age and even decreases the self-confidence.

These changes produced on the face are not always permanent. Hence, the face lifting procedure known as rhytidectomy is done in order to attain a more youthful, and good-looking appearance of the face. The facial appearance should be much liker to the natural face but it should look younger.

Generally, the women seems to be more interested for facial rejuvenation as comparative to men but nowadays the balance may be changing due to the competitive professional and business communities of today’s highly technical informative age. But while performing face-lifting procedure, the physiological and aesthetic differences between the men and women should be considered carefully.

There are different hair patterns and there may be the possibility of a receding hairline which influences the position of incisions in the temporal or coronal positions. The patient’s requiring face-lift surgery is like those who have crow’s feet, deep furrows in the forehead, second chin and other changes occurring commonly due to aging. Procedure for Face Lifting Surgery

Surgery is normally done under general anaesthesia but the procedure may also be performed under local an aesthesia or sedation. But in both of the cases, the surgery is performed without causing any discomfort to the patient. The surgery starts by giving incision in the hair just above and in front of the ear. The incision is continued around the bottom of the earlobe, behind the ear and into the hair behind the ear.

Traditional scalpel may be used to give incision. If laser is used then it results in bloodless incision. The skin is then raised on the face area and the excess skin and muscle tissue are exercised.

Then the skin is sutured in place at the original incision line. When the surgery is completed, then the surgeon place bandages over the incisonal areas. For at least 48 hours after the surgery, the cold compresses area advised to use in order to prevent swelling

Moreover, patient is also asked to keep the head elevated at least for few days after the surgery. This also helps to minimize the swelling. But if the swelling occurs, it takes near about a month to subside. Analgesics may be given to provide relief from pain if it occurs postoperatively. And the stitches are removed within seven to fourteen days after the procedure

Hence, through this way, the lifting and tightening of the facial skin is performed. In all the cases, the superior facelift results are not attained without the modification of the deeper structures underneath the skin of the face. The deeper face lift surgery, allows repositioning of the soft tissues of the face at the level of their bony of insertions. It also rejuvenates the central portion of the face and restores the tension of the muscles of facial expression.
