Dandruff
What is Dandruff
Dandruff is a mysterious ailment and a mild inflammation of the scalp. It is a kind of an itchy, and persistent skin disorder of the scalp associated with inefficient hair care.
In dandruff the scalp sheds dead epidermal (skin) cells which are some kind of visible dust-like stuff or flakes that falls from scalp to shoulders. Dandruff can happen at any age but is most commonly found in people between the ages of 12 and 80 and causes itching or soreness of the scalp . Dandruff is made up of bits of dead skin that the scalp sheds due to effects of metabolism.
Prolonged dandruff followed by itchiness, can lead to eczema if it worsens. Our entire body sheds dead skin cells every twenty-four days. If the scalp doesn't shed its dead epidermal cells then it would lead to excessively thick human scalp ,but when the shedding is very often ,then it leads to dandruff.
While dandruff does not actually cause hair loss, you can have a full head of hair and still have dandruff, it should be cleared up if possible, as a clean scalp can only help prevent hair loss. It is observed that people with dry scalp have more chances of dandruff than people with oily scalp. Also the problem with dandruff is more in the winter months than in the summer. Reason may be due to changes in humidity.
